Art @ Work 2019 Murals Part 1 - lead artists LaToya Peoples and S. Rasheem with Baltimore City Youth artist apprentices

Art @ Work is a 5 week mural apprenticeship program for youth enrolled in YouthWorks in Baltimore City. Young “Baltimoreans”, aged 14 - 21, are hired to work with a lead artist to create beautification projects in their communities. Art @ Work hopes to introduce the youth to careers in the arts, provide employment in a positive setting, and give them a space to express themselves through art. Art @ Work is produced by Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts. (https://www.promotionandarts.org/arts-council/art-work)

This year Art @ Work was based in the Govans and Baybrook communities. The lead artists included Ernest Shaw, Megan Lewis, LaToya Peoples, S. Rasheem, Iandry Randriamandroso, Kenneth Clemmons, and Jerome Chester.

For the two Art@Work murals I am posting about today, the Lead Artist for the first mural is LaToya Peoples, a local Baltimore artist. Latoya Peoples and her team of youth completed a mural at the New Song Worship and Arts Center in Sandtown, West Baltimore. The second mural, “One Baltimore Many Shades” was lead by S. Rasheem and her team of Baltimore youth and is located on Woodbourne Ave. (near 600 Woodbourne Ave.) in the Govans community. Both mural teams were recognized for their efforts by national news networks/newspapers, check out the links below!
